China's independently developed AG600 large amphibious aircraft was granted a production certificate by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Wednesday in Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong Province, marking the official beginning of the AG600's mass production phase, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
The AG600 "Kunlong" aircraft has strengths including excellent low-altitude and low-speed performance, high efficiency in firefighting and rescue operations, stable takeoff and landing on water, a wide range of mission capabilities, independently advanced technology, and a fully domestically developed support system.
It previously obtained its type certificate from the CAAC in Beijing on April 20, marking its successful development and approval to enter the market.
AG600 is China's first large civil special-purpose aircraft developed in accordance with the requirements of the civil aviation airworthiness regulations, according to Xinhua.
It is a type of major aeronautical equipment developed to meet the urgent needs of the national emergency rescue system and the national natural disaster prevention and control system, safeguarding the safety of people's lives and property, said Xinhua.
An expert from the aircraft developer, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), said that the successful development of the AG600 aircraft has led to the creation of a core technology system for large amphibious aircraft in China, and it has enabled China to independently develop large amphibious aircraft, marking a historic breakthrough in the development of the country's civil aviation industry for special-purpose large aircraft, according to a report by the Xinhua Net on Wednesday.
The AVIC expert also noted that the next step will focus on meeting the urgent needs of China's emergency rescue and natural disaster prevention systems. Efforts will continue to promote the development of the AG600 aircraft series and improve the aviation emergency rescue service system, aiming to build a comprehensive emergency rescue equipment system centered on the AG600, the report said.
